Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad Finally Address ‘Laguna Beach’ Feud: ‘We Just Might Kiss’

18 years later, Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad have finally reunited for a heart-to-heart conversation. For many millennials who grew up in the mid-aughts, these two were the biggest names in their world as part of a love triangle. This reunion should help to put any remaining Team Lauren/Team Kristin rivalries to rest once and for all.

If you haven’t been keeping up, Kristin and her high school ex-boyfriend Stephen Colletti have been co-hosting a Laguna Beach rewatch podcast called Back to the Beach. They’ve discussed Season 1 of the MTV reality soap in great detail, revealing what actually happened on set versus what was scripted (spoiler: almost everything).

On the most recent episode, which aired Tuesday morning, the pair reunited with Laguna and The Hills reality star Lauren Conrad. Lauren was Laguna’s Season 1 narrator and Steven’s love interest (or at least according to MTV’s editing). Kristin tended to be portrayed as more of a ‘bad girl’ in comparison between the two girlfriends during Stephen’s on-again off-again relationship.

Kristin and Lauren began the conversation by joyfully recalling a house party they attended in L.A. post-Laguna Beach.

“We had so much fun together! I just want everyone to know: We’ve had a handful of really great times together,” Kristin said.Lauren agreed, telling Stephen, “As soon as you left, it was great.”Kristin concurred: “You were the problem all along though,Stephen! Jeez.

The three of them explained that Lauren and Kristin got into a fight before MTV came to their high school for casting Laguna Beach. They said that by the time the cameras started rolling, everything had been sorted out more or less. But it seems like the producers took advantage of the situation with Lauren and Kristin and created a storyline out of it.

“I don’t think we ever really had any issue,” Kristin said to Lauren on Back to the Beach. “Obviously there was a little truth to what happened with the three of us, but I felt like MTV coming in and filming kept it alive and made it way worse than it ever would have been.”

“I agree,” Lauren said. “I think everything was done when they started filming. This is what I remember: We got into an argument and then made up right before they began Formal filming. And everything was fine between us. But then they came and… I don’t think we were best friends, but we were fine.”

Lauren then said: “We were all being really judgmental about you when we watched this. I did the same thing you did all week.”

“Thank you!” Kristin replied. “That was my issue, I thought ‘I wasn’t the only one dancing on a bar.'”

When Lauren was asked how she thought she came across on the show, she opened up about how her portrayal senior year didn’t accurately reflect who she was.

“It feels like they took a small piece of me and used it,” Lauren said. “I’m always just off in the corner, creepily observing you all – which is quite embarrassing. And what’s funny is that Season 1 covers our senior year; I had several boyfriends during this time. If any of them ever watched this show, they’d be thinking ‘she’s going after that guy again.'”

Kristin commented that, “They really hammered the love triangle home,” to which Lauren agreed, saying, “Yes, they did. They didn’t want me to have anything else.”

Stephen said that the show is “completely tilted” because the narrator, Lauren, seemed planes and Kristin and him were like a hurricane. He also sweetly added that we should all “root for her.” There were many other interesting pieces of information from the episode. For example, Talan Torriero was apparently “hooking up with Lauren” throughout filming Season 1 to which Kristin responded with surprise, exclaiming that everyone in the cast was doing so at some point too. Another moment saw Stephen and Lauren laughing about how they’d dated briefly when they 7th grade before becoming friends again later on. Lauren jokingly criticizes herself for wearing multiple tank tops (we’ve all been there, right?); and they all agree that Trey Phillips came out the best of any of them. They also tease the possibility of planning a bigger event for the 20-year anniversary of the show, which would be coming up in 2024.

Kristin and Stephen confirmed that they will return to recap the second season of Laguna on Back to the Beach after a short break. So far, their Season 1 recap episodes have included guest appearances from former cast members Phillips, Christina Schuller, Morgan Olsen, and Dieter Schmitz—plus series creator and executive producer Liz Gateley. We eagerly await news on who will join them for the second batch of episodes.

The first two seasons of Laguna Beach will be on Netflix this Friday which is perfect for anyone who wants to marathon watch before Kristin and Stephen’s return.
